The TF1 group’s theme channels Histoire TV and TV Breizh are joining ACCeS, an industry body for TV channels distributed other than via frequencies awarded by the CSA (the French broadcasting regulator). ACCeS defends the interests of member channels and showcases them across the entire communications industry.

Launched in 1997, Histoire TV is a general-interest history channel and France’s most-watched history specialist. It brings all aspects of history to life in a wide range of formats. There are programmes covering every era and tackling a variety of themes, from civilisations in wartime to true crime. Histoire TV’s distinctive editorial line delivers more than 300 hours of new programming each year to 9 million subscriber households across the French-speaking world. Histoire TV reaches 3.6 million viewers every month.

Launched in 2000, TV Breizh is France’s most-watched pay-TV channel. Programming is heavily weighted towards cult series and drama, with strong brand identities and well-loved heroes like Columbo, Hercule Poirot, Balthazar, Munch and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Founded in 1997, ACCeS has 37 member channels that operate under agreements with the CSA to broadcast to French territory via cable, satellite, ASDL and fibre and other electronic means of communication.

Richard Maroko, Chair of ACCeS says: “ACCeS is delighted to welcome on board two high-profile theme channels. This also means that all media groups operating in the French pay-TV market are now represented within our Association”.

Christophe Sommet, Head of Theme Channels, TF1 group says: “I am very pleased that Histoire TV and TV Breizh are joining ACCeS. It’s an opportunity for us to participate in the work and conversations within the association, and to enable our members to project their message more strongly and ensure their voices are heard by key players in the broadcasting ecosystem”.
