Conference on January 6, 2015: #TF1PARISCLIMAT2015
Eleven months ahead of the COP21 summit to be held in Paris from November 30 to December 11, 2015, the TF1 group demonstrated its commitment by organising an unprecedented conference on January 6, 2015. Orchestrated by Christine Oberdorff, a journalist at Ushuaïa TV, the emblematic TF1 channel dedicated to sustainable development and environmental protection, the event was divided into two parts: a review of the situation by Nicolas Hulot, Brice Lalonde, Jean-Pascal van Ypersele de Strihou and Jean-Marc Jancovici, and an overview of emerging solutions. Catherine Puiseux-Kapko, coordinator of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy and, since December 1, 2014, chair of the Group Diversity Committee, talked to us about the objectives of this original event.
As recently as five years ago we were talking about a “climate catastrophe” but without proposing the technical and economic answers. Today, a number of players, including companies, have solutions to offer. What we need to do now is boost the visibility of those solutions and generate consumer interest! We fully assume our role by regularly informing and raising the awareness of television viewers on Ushuaïa TV, in weather bulletins and on the news shows of TF1 and LCI. We broadcast nearly 800 reports a year on climate alerts and on the solutions that are emerging in a broad range of fields, including home insulation, new forms of mobility, the sharing economy, the fight against waste, organic products, local production and short supply chains.
Also, through our advertising slots we are a key player in consumption in France. Our advertisers, suppliers and other media are often companies committed themselves to sustainable development. We organised this B2B conference, featuring a platform of experts, to share a special moment with these partners focused on the objectives and the urgent need to take action. It is a starting point for perhaps initiating more consistent actions together, giving real-life form to our respective commitments and contributing to a change in scale. We do not claim to create solutions ourselves but we do have a legitimate role to play in raising awareness of them and sharing them.
2015 is the year in which we will all rally around climate change. We are convinced that the challenges of the 21st century will not be met without fairness, solidarity and the talents of all people, and that the TF1 group can play a decisive role in this respect in France.
